The Big Affordable Art Fair in Paris
If you could suddenly transport yourself to Paris in a few weeks, you would be in time to catch a most interesting fair, or Salon, Le Grand Salon d’Art Abordable (roughly translates as the Big Fair of Affordable Art), put together by the gloriously named Peacock Society.
The purpose of this annual winter art fair is to showcase up-coming artists, whom you would be hard-pressed to discover otherwise, especially as a visitor to Paris.
With its casual, low-key atmosphere, “art coaches” and clear price rages, the idea is to make art approachable and afordable for everyone.
The concept has caught on since the first Fair in London in 1999, and Affordable Art Fairs now take place in eight cities around the world.
This Fair follows on from the large, international Salon International d’Art Contemporain organised by Art3F, held at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, which was held from 26 – 28 January this year. This important Fair, covering nearly 6,000 sq. m. of exhibition space, showed over 3,000 works from150 artists from France and other European countries as well as from further afield.
This annual event attracts visitors from all over the world, and as most of the exhibitors already have an international reputation in the art world, there’s little expectation of finding any bargains.
At Le Grand Salon d’Art Abordable, forty artists will present their work, discuss what projects they’re currently working on and as it’s all for sale, anyone can acquire their own original work of art at very affordable prices, ranging from 50€ to 5,000€.
Traditional art galleries were never like this.
The show runs from Friday 23 – Sunday 25 February at La Bellevilloise, 19/21 rue Boyer, 75020 Paris.
Entry 5€ for adults, free for 14 years and under. Opening hours: 14h00 to 20h30.
Nearest metros: either Ménilmontant (Line 2) or Gambetta (Line 3); buses: Lines 26 or 96
